There are a wide variety of places where you can offer your talents and skills to Christ through Wesley United Methodist Church. We need people to commit of their time and talents in our choir programs, as greeters, ushers and liturgists, Sunday School teachers, nursery and junior church workers, service on boards and special committees, and visitation team members.Membership is also open to all in a variety of fellowship groups with a service orientation such as United Methodist Women, United Methodist Men, United Methodist Youth, short-term mission projects, prayer chain, Detroit Annual Conference and Marquette District United Methodist Church projects and committees, and our district summer camp, Camp Michigamme.
Each of us possesses gifts and talents, which Christ calls us to use in service to His Church and to each other. We would be happy to discuss these opportunities further and to hear YOUR ideas on how Wesley United Methodist Church can better serve our community.
OUTREACH and MISSION
Wesley United Methodist Church is part of a denomination with a strong heritage of mission work and outreach. Our founder, John Wesley once said, "The world is my parish." Through our support of our denomination we contribute to missions throughout the world and in the United States. Missionary support, world projects, national projects, world hunger and crisis relief, Detroit Annual Conference projects, and Marquette District projects all receive our support. Our missions group is active in our community by responding to crisis needs as they occur, supporting the work of the Salvation Army and other agencies, which respond to need right here in Ishpeming. We regularly collect food and other items for our local food bank and distribute baskets at Thanksgiving.
The members of Wesley Church have always been known for their kindness and loving support of our members and non-members in times of need. The United Methodist Women of Wesley Church, through both their national organization and locally, support a wide variety of missions and outreach ministries.
Our Prayer Chain helps to keep our members informed of needs in our congregation and community while visitation teams call on and minister to our shut-in members and welcome visitors and newcomers.
Music has always played an important role in the life of Wesley United Methodist Church. Several choirs provide vocal music at our worship as well as at special musical programs throughout the year. In recent years, Wesley has added a Bell Choir, which further enriches our worship experience along with providing excellent musical training for our young people. All musical programs at Wesley Church are open to anyone with a love of music and a desire to learn. The following musical opportunities exist for your participation.
